Coronavirus in Illinois

There are 1,344 new coronavirus cases in Illinois that were revealed and 528 deaths statewide.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker is not sure how families will be able to have large gatherings throughout the summer and that is the harsh reality that Chicagoans have to deal with. Illinois officials have COVID-19 federal testing sites all over Chicago and some federal sites at different Wal-Marts. Approximately 30% of tenants in the United States did not pay rent for April due to the Coronavirus pandemic. In Illinois they state that 10.1% to 83% rent payments within April 2019 and this year it dropped to 73% in Illinois. Gov. Pritzker also released the elderly and ill in prison due to the virus as well. Mayor Lightfoot made a strong impact with her “stay home save lives” campaign in a major way practicing social distancing in order to prevent coronavirus. She also tells a funny story about an underage drinking party on the north side of Chicago and how shocked they were when they recognized her in the car. The Illinois Department of Public Health is currently partnering with ISBE to give people the best resources and help in order to inform communities about this virus outbreak. This is quickly growing into a dire situation and they will continue to update us on any further information released to the public. The unemployment claim figures technically does not mean you lost your job and Illinoisans could possibly be eligible for benefits even when it is optional to work later. Business had to shut down due to the coronavirus outbreak with over about 64,000 unemployment claims from March 16-18th about 10 times the amount on the same three days a year earlier. The Pritzker Administration informed the public that they were filing emergency rules and people could potentially receive benefits. As a result, The Illinois Department of Employment security has created a guideline to follow throughout this time of civilians being unemployed receiving the benefits as well. A large number of businesses lost a lot of revenue due to this crisis and as a result of that people ended up being laid off in the process of that. They mentioned that in order to prevent this from happening the state of Illinois should mandate that all local governments need to delay the collection of one installment of property taxes until the beginning of October.
